A fast-spreading wildfire in northwestern Nevada has forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate as flames moved from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains towards Reno.
The blaze, known as the Hawk Fire, has burned more than 4,450 hectares (10,500 acres) and injured at least six people.
The fire started on Saturday near the Hawk Meadow Trail outside Reno and intensified rapidly due to strong winds, low humidity and dry vegetation, according to Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue.
By Sunday, nearly 10,000 homes and businesses across Washoe County had lost power as firefighters battled the blaze.
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said an initial investigation had determined that the fire was human-caused. Authorities continue to manage evacuations and firefighting efforts as the wildfire spreads.
