The Lagos State Government, through Health District III, has recorded improved healthcare utilisation in the first half of 2026, with 10 out of 13 key service indicators showing growth compared to the corresponding period in 2025. The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, disclosed this during the District’s Mid-Year Data Review meeting held at the District III Headquarters in Ikoyi, attributing the improvement to strengthened service delivery and increased community engagement.
Adeleke said the District recorded a 20 per cent increase in general attendance, a 15 per cent rise in deliveries and a 33 per cent growth in postnatal care visits. Epe Local Government Area recorded particularly strong performance, with deliveries increasing by 102 per cent, postnatal visits by 124 per cent and general attendance by 32 per cent. New family planning acceptors also rose by 13 per cent across the District, with Ibeju-Lekki and Epe recording increases of 53 per cent and 39 per cent respectively.
Despite the progress, the Permanent Secretary expressed concern over declines in immunisation coverage, with Measles 1 and Measles 2 indicators dropping by 32 per cent and 46 per cent respectively. Postnatal care visits in Eti-Osa also declined by 25 per cent, while new family planning acceptors in the area fell by six per cent. Adeleke directed health facilities to investigate issues relating to vaccine availability, cold-chain management and missed opportunities, while urging the replication of successful strategies from Epe in other areas.
She stressed that the purpose of the review was not to apportion blame but to use data to identify gaps and strengthen healthcare delivery across the District. Adeleke added that the focus should be on ensuring that improved figures translate into meaningful improvements in the health and wellbeing of residents.
