The Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the regulation and standardisation of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services across Lagos State.
At a meeting of its ART Monitoring Committee in Lagos, key issues reviewed included the proposed ART Bill, surrogacy regulation, data submission through the AFRH Registry, documentation requirements for embryologists and standards for ART facilities.
HEFAMAA Executive Secretary, Dr. Victoria Egunjobi, stressed the importance of effective regulation and collaboration among regulators, practitioners and other stakeholders to promote patient safety, ethical practice and quality healthcare delivery.
The Committee also recommended mandatory submission of ART data through the AFRH Registry for facility registration renewal and that embryologists should not work across more than three facilities. Some previously inspected facilities had their registration approvals validated, while two received conditional approval subject to meeting specified requirements.
