Several students and other occupants are feared dead after a three-storey hostel collapsed late Sunday night in Amokpala, Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The building, identified as Elite Five Star Lodge, reportedly caved in with several occupants trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue teams have so far pulled out some injured victims, who have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while efforts continue to reach others still trapped.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command said a joint rescue operation involving the Police, State Fire Service, and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is ongoing. Authorities are yet to confirm the number of casualties as search and rescue efforts continue.
