Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a large-scale ballistic missile and drone attack on a Saudi military base in Sharurah, a city in southern Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the attack targeted weapons depots and command-and-control facilities at the military base. He claimed that a large barrage of missiles and drones struck the intended targets, although he provided no details on possible casualties or damage.
Sarea said the operation was carried out in retaliation for continued Saudi military action in Yemen, warning that any further escalation would be met with larger attacks deeper inside Saudi territory. Saudi authorities had not immediately commented on the claim.
The reported attack comes amid renewed escalation in Yemen, where fighting has intensified across several fronts since the Houthis launched a major offensive on September 3. The group has claimed significant territorial gains along the Red Sea coast, including the capture of the strategic port city of Mocha and expanded control around the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
