Grassroots sports development took center stage in Lagos State as the IBILE Divisional Boxing Championship got underway in Ojo Local Government, providing a platform for young boxers to showcase their talent and pursue sporting excellence.
The Ojo Local Government Secretariat came alive with excitement as the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, in collaboration with the Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association, officially flagged off the Badagry Division leg of the championship.
The tournament features some of the finest amateur boxing talents drawn from ten Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, including Badagry, Ojo, Badagry West, Oto-Awori, Iba, Oriade, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Apapa-Iganmu, Amuwo-Odofin, and Olorunda.
Speaking as the official host, the Chairman of Ojo Local Government, Honourable Princess Muhibat Titilola Rufai-Adeyemi, reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to youth development through sustained investment in grassroots sports.
She noted that sports remain a powerful tool for empowering young people, nurturing talent and promoting social inclusion, adding that initiatives such as the IBILE Divisional Championship provide aspiring athletes with opportunities to compete, develop their skills and achieve greater success.
The championship is expected to discover emerging boxing talents while strengthening grassroots sports development across Lagos State.
