The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has denied reports that it sought a fresh extension of the detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, John Odey, the Commission clarified that its appearance in court was solely to respond to an application filed by El-Rufai on March 6, 2026, challenging the remand order previously granted by the court.
According to the ICPC, El-Rufai’s legal team requested an adjournment after being served with the Commission’s response, leading the court to postpone the hearing to March 31, 2026.
The anti-corruption agency explained that the initial remand order granted it 14 days to investigate allegations of money laundering and abuse of office, with an additional 14-day extension approved on March 5, 2026. It emphasized that the former governor remains in lawful custody under a valid court order.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to due process and adherence to the rule of law, urging the public to rely on verified information and avoid speculation.
El-Rufai, who has been in custody since February 18, 2026, is also facing separate legal proceedings, including a cybercrime case filed by the Department of State Services (DSS), with a hearing scheduled for April 23, 2026.
