The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed that the presidential aide honoured the commission’s invitation on Monday and appeared before investigators at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.
According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila fully cooperated with investigators, gave his testimony, responded to questions concerning the alleged activities of the PFIPC, and subsequently returned to his official duties.
The investigation follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the ICPC to conduct a comprehensive probe into the PFIPC after the Presidency disowned the organisation, stating that it was never established by the Federal Government.
The controversy intensified after Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly operated the PFIPC, claimed he was appointed by Gbajabiamila and accused the presidential aide of demanding money to facilitate his appointment—allegations Gbajabiamila has strongly denied.
Meanwhile, Adeyemi has been arrested and is facing criminal charges over alleged forgery and impersonation in connection with the operations of the purported agency.
