Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a 14-day security operation targeting illegal firearms and criminal hideouts across Benue State to tackle rising insecurity.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, the IGP said the directive followed President Bola Tinubu’s instruction to end insecurity in the state. He warned that only authorised security personnel are permitted to carry firearms and vowed that anyone found with illegal weapons would face prosecution.
The operation will focus on identified flashpoints, forests, farmlands, and other criminal hideouts, with security agencies targeting armed herders, bandits, and other criminal elements while protecting law-abiding residents.
