The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, has intercepted 220 consignments of prohibited and smuggled goods valued at N3.23 billion within eight weeks.
The unit also recovered N728.9 million in revenue during the period through intensified enforcement against under-declaration, false declarations and other forms of customs fraud.
Among the items seized were 4,956 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 12 foreign-used vehicles, over 1,400kg of synthetic cannabis, cannabis, tramadol, Hypnox tablets, elephant tusks, 24,100 litres of petrol, foreign poultry products, used clothing and 2,947 used tyres.
The Customs Area Controller, Gambo Aliyu, said the seizures demonstrate the unit’s commitment to protecting local industries, safeguarding government revenue, supporting food security and preventing harmful goods from entering the country.
He urged importers, exporters and licensed customs agents to comply with customs regulations, warning that enforcement against smuggling and revenue evasion would continue.
