The Nigeria Immigration Service, Osun State Command, has arrested 55 irregular migrants from Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo for allegedly entering the country through unauthorised routes without valid travel documents.
The migrants were apprehended at different locations across the state following intelligence-led operations. According to the Osun Comptroller of Immigration, Abraham Akinyemi, the suspects were taken into custody for profiling and possible repatriation.
Akinyemi said preliminary checks showed that the migrants had no passports or other valid travel documents and were allegedly involved in an unregistered online business.
Some of the migrants were reportedly arrested in Owode-Ede, while immigration officials said efforts were ongoing to locate others believed to be staying at undisclosed locations across the state.
The command also said it would investigate those responsible for facilitating the migrants’ entry into the state as part of efforts to curb irregular migration.
