The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents that the internal crisis within the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) will not affect logistics for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Speaking at a town hall meeting on election integrity in Osogbo, the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, said the Commission had made adequate arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of election personnel and materials across the state.
Babalola described transportation as a critical component of the electoral process but explained that INEC is working directly with the national leadership of the NURTW rather than any faction within the state chapter.
She said the Commission had engaged the union’s national body on the need for professionalism, neutrality, prompt service, and the provision of roadworthy vehicles, expressing confidence that internal disputes within the union would not interfere with election logistics.
Traditional rulers and other stakeholders at the meeting also appealed to political parties, candidates, and supporters to shun violence and vote peacefully, urging security agencies and electoral officials to remain impartial throughout the electoral process.
