The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
The exercise began at about 1:25 p.m. on Thursday at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in Ado-Ekiti, under the close supervision of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Election officials, observers, and representatives of political parties were present to monitor the process as materials were sorted and dispatched to the 16 local government areas of the state.
According to INEC, the distribution was deliberately structured, beginning with the most distant local government areas from the state capital, including Ilejemeje, Ayekire, Ido-Osi, Ijero, Ikole, Ekiti East, and Emure, to ensure timely delivery.
Security personnel were deployed to escort vehicles conveying the materials to various destinations, ensuring adequate protection and preventing any form of interference during transportation.
Speaking shortly after the exercise began, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ekiti State, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, assured residents of the commission’s preparedness to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.
He explained that the distribution marked a critical stage in INEC’s preparations and was being carried out transparently in the presence of stakeholders, including security agencies, political parties, observers, and the media.
Omoseyindemi further expressed confidence in the commission’s readiness, noting that all necessary arrangements had been completed for a successful poll across the state.
He also urged voters to come out peacefully on election day to perform their civic responsibility, while commending security agencies for their support in safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring the safe movement of materials.
