FIFA President Gianni Infantino has launched a strong defence of the FIFA World Cup, accusing critics of being “consumed by hate” and spreading “false rumours” instead of celebrating the tournament’s success.
In a lengthy statement shared on his Instagram account, Infantino said some journalists and commentators focused on criticism and “strange disciplinary rulings,” while ignoring the joy, excitement and global unity the competition brought to millions of fans.
The FIFA chief insisted the World Cup remained “the best show in the world,” praising the tournament’s atmosphere and the happiness it delivered, while taking aim at what he described as persistent negativity from its detractors.
