The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has dismissed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s plan to reopen Nigeria’s land borders if elected President in 2027, insisting that the country’s borders are not closed.
Tunji-Ojo made the clarification in a statement on Saturday while reacting to Atiku’s comments on his proposed border policy.
The minister explained that the Nigeria Immigration Service, under the Ministry of Interior, is responsible for border and migration management.
He said the current administration has continued to facilitate controlled movement of people and trade across Nigeria’s land borders, stressing that the government’s approach is focused on maintaining effective border management while supporting legitimate economic activities.
Tunji-Ojo’s remarks came in response to Atiku’s reported proposal to reopen the borders as part of his plans ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
