The Iraqi government has dismissed reports claiming it is mediating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing the allegations as “completely baseless.”
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s media office urged media organisations to rely on official sources and avoid spreading unverified reports. The denial followed a New York Times report alleging that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi conveyed a ceasefire proposal to Tehran after meeting with US President Donald Trump.
The development comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with recent military exchanges disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and raising concerns over regional security and global energy supplies.
