The Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State has sought the support of the Jigawa State Police Command to tackle emerging cult-related activities and other forms of anti-social behaviour among some students.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, at the Command Headquarters in Dutse.
Gumel stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between the university and the police in security, intelligence sharing, crime prevention and the protection of lives and property.
He described the reported cult-related activities as a relatively new development that requires proactive intervention before it becomes entrenched, while calling for greater emphasis on discipline, moral conduct, academic excellence and responsible citizenship.
Responding, CP Murtala assured the university of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding students and staff through preventive, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing.
He also urged the university to strengthen its internal mechanisms for identifying and reporting suspicious activities, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility.
