Former two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua made a winning return to the ring, knocking out Albania’s Kristian Prenga in the second round of their bout at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua overcame an early scare after being knocked down in the opening round before recovering in emphatic fashion. The British-Nigerian boxer regained control with a barrage of powerful combinations, forcing the referee to stop the contest just 1 minute and 52 seconds into the second round.
The fight lasted a total of 4 minutes and 52 seconds, marking an impressive comeback for Joshua after an extended spell away from competitive boxing.
Prenga entered the contest unbeaten in his previous 16 fights, including an unbroken knockout streak, but was unable to withstand Joshua’s relentless attack once the former champion found his rhythm.
The victory strengthens Joshua’s prospects of securing a long-awaited all-British heavyweight clash with Tyson Fury later this year, with expectations growing that negotiations for the blockbuster bout will now intensify.
