The Kaduna State Government has commenced the training of 1,000 forest guards as part of efforts to combat banditry and improve security across vulnerable communities in the state.
The six-week training programme, coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), is designed to equip the recruits with the skills needed to support security agencies in monitoring forests, gathering intelligence, and preventing criminal activities.
Speaking at the Police College in Kaduna, Governor Uba Sani, represented by his Chief of Staff, Sani Kila, urged the trainees to uphold discipline, professionalism, and dedication as they prepare to serve their communities.
The forest guards, drawn largely from security flashpoints and familiar with the local terrain, will be deployed to critical local government areas, including Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Kagarko, Kachia, Chikun, Kajuru, and Igabi, upon completion of their training.
The state government expressed confidence that the initiative will enhance security, enable farmers to safely return to their farmlands, and boost economic activities in rural communities.
