The Kano State Government has distributed working tools to 1,900 butchers drawn from the state’s 44 local government areas as part of its economic empowerment programme.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony held at the Government House, Governor Abba Yusuf said the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to strengthening small businesses, reducing poverty, improving food safety and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The governor described butchers as critical players in the food supply chain and stressed the need to maintain strict hygiene standards in abattoirs and meat processing centres to safeguard public health.
He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the tools to expand their businesses, improve productivity, create employment opportunities and enhance their livelihoods.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing policies that promote entrepreneurship, empower citizens and support key sectors of the state’s economy, noting that sustainable development depends on equipping people with the resources to become self-reliant.
Chairman of the Kano State Butchers Association, Alhaji Nasiru Isyaku, described the intervention as unprecedented, commending the state government for recognising the role of butchers in ensuring food security and public health. He pledged that members of the association would continue to uphold professional and hygienic standards in their operations.
