Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle involving the reassignment of several Special Advisers and the appointment of new officials as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery in the state.
The changes, announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, also included the scrapping of the offices of Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs and Special Adviser on Liaison Offices (Abuja).
Officials previously occupying the affected positions were reassigned to new roles within the administration.
Under the new arrangement, Habiba Barwa, formerly Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs, has been appointed Special Adviser on Special Duties (Women), while Umar Akawu, who served as Special Adviser on Liaison Offices (Abuja), has been redeployed to the Cabinet Office as Special Adviser (Political).
Other redeployments include Akibu Isa Murtala, moved from Administration in the Governor’s Office to Human Resource; Ibrahim Adam, reassigned from Information to Social Media; and Nasiru Isa Dikko, transferred from Non-Governmental Organisations to Empowerment.
The governor also approved the appointment of Bello Nuhu Bello as Special Adviser (Administration), replacing his previous role as Senior Special Assistant on Administration.
In addition, former Kano State APC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ahmed Muhammad Aruwa, was appointed Special Adviser on Publicity.
Other appointments include Hon. Buhari Sule Kura as Special Adviser on Non-Governmental Organisations and Hon. Yahuza Ado Yankaba as Special Adviser on Motor Parks, following his promotion from Senior Special Assistant.
Several other individuals were also appointed as Special Advisers across various portfolios, including administration, empowerment, and governance support roles.
Governor Yusuf said the restructuring was aimed at improving administrative efficiency and aligning government operations with the priorities of his administration.
He urged the newly appointed and reassigned officials to demonstrate dedication, loyalty, and accountability in the discharge of their duties, stressing that public office is a responsibility of trust.
“Public office is a trust. Those entrusted with leadership responsibilities must discharge them with sincerity, accountability and commitment to the development of Kano State and the welfare of its people,” the governor said.
The statement added that affected officials have been directed to report to the Secretary to the State Government for further briefing, while portfolios for some newly appointed advisers will be announced at a later date.
