The Kano State Government has approved the release of ₦300 million to support beneficiaries of the Hisbah Mass Wedding Scheme, reaffirming its commitment to easing the financial burden of marriage and promoting stable family life.
The Chairman of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, announced the development on Thursday during a pre-marital orientation programme for prospective couples at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
According to Daurawa, each bride will receive ₦200,000, which will serve as both dowry support and start-up capital. To ensure transparency and accountability, the funds will be paid directly into the beneficiaries’ individual bank accounts.
In addition to the cash support, the state government will provide household furniture for each newly married couple. Grooms will also receive 10 yards of fabric, a cap, shoes, and food items to help them begin married life with greater financial stability.
Daurawa said the initiative is aimed at reducing the high cost of marriage, which has prevented many young people from getting married, while also encouraging responsible family life and reducing social challenges associated with delayed marriages.
He noted that by supporting mass weddings, the government is helping to ensure marriages are conducted in accordance with Islamic values while strengthening household economies through financial assistance and essential household items.
A mass wedding reception is scheduled for Saturday at the Government House in Kano, where prominent Islamic scholars from across Nigeria are expected to offer prayers for the newlyweds.
As part of the orientation programme, Daurawa urged prospective husbands to treat their wives with love, fairness, and responsibility, while encouraging brides to remain patient and supportive in building peaceful and successful homes.
He also reaffirmed the Hisbah Board’s commitment to resolving marital disputes through reconciliation before resorting to divorce and invited beneficiaries from previous editions of the programme to attend the reception in support of the new couples.
The Hisbah Mass Wedding Scheme has become one of Kano State’s flagship social welfare initiatives, combining religious guidance with economic empowerment to strengthen families and foster social cohesion.
