The Kano State Government has warned that bridges across the state are not meant for hawking, scavenging, or other unauthorized activities, as it begins a fresh enforcement campaign to protect public infrastructure.
The Chairman of the Kano State Special Taskforce on Illegal Structures, Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, issued the warning during an inspection of Tal’udu Bridge, where he directed all hawkers and scavengers operating beneath the bridge to vacate the area immediately.
According to Dr. Sani, bridges constructed with billions of naira in public funds must not be converted into markets, refuse dumps, or recreational spaces.
“This place was not designated for hawking, scavenging, or as a football field. Anyone found violating these regulations will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring order around public infrastructure and safeguarding public investments, while urging residents to support efforts aimed at keeping Kano clean, safe, and well-organized.
Dr. Sani also noted that strict enforcement of environmental regulations in countries such as Saudi Arabia has helped preserve public facilities, stressing the need for similar discipline in Kano.
