The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the compulsory retirement of two judicial officers and the demotion of a Sharia Court judge after finding them guilty of various acts of misconduct.
The decisions were reached during the commission’s 86th meeting, where it considered recommendations from the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee following investigations into petitions filed against the affected officers.
The disciplinary measures were announced in a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim.
According to the statement, the commission ordered the compulsory retirement of the two judicial officers after establishing that they had engaged in conduct inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of judicial personnel.
The JSC also demoted Hon. Alkali Usman Haruna Usman, Presiding Judge of the Upper Sharia Court, Goron Dutse, by one grade level for misconduct.
The commission said the sanctions were intended to preserve the integrity, discipline, and credibility of the judiciary, emphasizing that judicial officers must uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and fairness in the discharge of their duties.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining public confidence in the administration of justice in Kano State, the JSC warned that any judicial officer or court staff found guilty of unethical conduct would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law and established judicial regulations.
