The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA) has dismissed allegations made by former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo over the state’s response to flood victims, assuring residents that relief payments will begin soon.
Addressing a press conference in Kano, KASEMA Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Isyaku Kubarachi, said the agency had followed due process in assessing victims and preparing relief interventions, stressing that disaster management is a humanitarian responsibility, not a political issue.
Kubarachi commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting rescue operations, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian assistance since assuming office.
He explained that although 28 local government areas initially reported flood disasters, the governor directed that assessments be extended to all 44 local government areas to ensure no affected resident was left out.
According to him, data has been collected for more than 57,000 beneficiaries, with bank accounts opened to enable direct payment of relief funds. He assured that all arrangements for disbursement had been completed and payments would commence shortly.
Kubarachi attributed the delay to the extensive verification process and the governor’s official engagements outside the state, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to transparency, fairness and accountability.
