The Katsina Local Government Council has commissioned the Late Hajiya Safara’u Radda Maternity and Children’s Health Clinic in Gidan Dawa as part of efforts to expand access to quality maternal and child healthcare services across the state.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Chairman of the Katsina Local Government Council, Isah Miqdad, said the project replaced an old and dilapidated dispensary that could no longer provide safe and effective healthcare to residents.
He explained that the facility underwent an intensive three-week reconstruction and upgrade to transform it into a modern health centre equipped to deliver comprehensive medical services, particularly for pregnant women, children and the wider community.
According to Miqdad, the new clinic will complement services provided by the Turai Yar’adua Maternity Hospital by offering maternal and child healthcare, general medical care, and other essential health services.
Katsina State Commissioner for Health, Musa Funtua, described the project as a significant investment in the health sector, praising the council chairman for prioritising healthcare delivery and improving access to quality medical services.
Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Katsina State, Bishir Saulawa, said increased investment by the state and local governments had eased pressure on existing health facilities, noting that the growing population of Katsina Local Government has made continuous expansion of healthcare infrastructure necessary.
Governor Dikko Radda commended the council chairman for executing what he described as a people-centred project, urging him to sustain the momentum of development across the local government.
The governor, who expressed emotion during the event, said the commissioning held special significance because the facility was named in honour of his late mother, Hajiya Safara’u Radda, to preserve her legacy.
The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, healthcare professionals, political leaders and community members, who described the project as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Gidan Dawa and surrounding communities.
