King Charles III has taken the unusual step of clarifying Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s status as non-working members of the Royal Family, following their recent return to the United Kingdom.
A letter sent to government and military officials on the King’s behalf stated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should not be addressed as His or Her Royal Highness, and that their charitable activities are conducted in a private capacity.
The letter also clarified that any security concerns involving the couple should be directed to the police, while administrative matters should be handled through their separate office.
Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and later relocated to California. Their recent return to the UK has renewed attention on their relationship with the Royal Family.
