The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports claiming that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, threatened to leave the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged replacement of candidates.
Speaking on Monday, the group’s spokesman, Habibu Sale Mohammed, described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that there is no crisis within the movement or the party.
The denial follows media reports suggesting that the Kwankwasiyya bloc was considering exiting the NDC after some candidates previously nominated by the group were allegedly substituted, sparking claims of a breach in a power-sharing arrangement.
However, Mohammed said the reports were “mere rumours,” stressing that the party’s internal processes were being handled in line with established electoral guidelines.
According to him, the party’s primaries were conducted on May 29 in accordance with the Electoral Act and INEC regulations, and the results were duly affirmed without disputes.
He further explained that stakeholders had earlier agreed on a consensus arrangement where necessary, and that adopted candidates were duly submitted without internal conflict.
Mohammed also noted that Senator Kwankwaso had not expressed any grievance to the movement regarding the matter, adding that the party leadership remains best positioned to address any internal issues.
