Mustapha Kwankwaso, the eldest son of former Kano State Governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has emerged as the deputy governorship candidate of the NDC in Kano State.
His nomination as running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Aminu Abdulsalam, was announced following a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by the elder Kwankwaso at his Miller Road residence in Kano.
The announcement was made by Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Saifullahi Hassan, who congratulated Mustapha on his emergence as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
Before entering the race, Mustapha Kwankwaso served as Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, a position he resigned from in January.
Both Aminu Abdulsalam and Mustapha Kwankwaso previously served in the Kano State Executive Council under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf before political disagreements led to a major shakeup in the state government earlier this year.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kano following Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
