Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have endorsed Speaker, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, for the 2027 governorship election, while dismissing reports that no primary election was conducted to select a candidate.
The lawmakers made their position known during a press briefing at the Assembly Complex in Ilorin.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, Majority Leader Abdulkadri Magaji described reports questioning the conduct of the primary election within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party.
According to Magaji, the APC conducted a primary election to elect its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Kwara State.
The lawmakers said their endorsement of Danladi-Salihu reflects confidence in his leadership, legislative experience, and contributions to the development of the state.
They urged party members and the public to disregard claims that the primary election process was not conducted, insisting that due process and party guidelines were followed.
The legislators also reaffirmed their commitment to the unity and progress of the APC in Kwara State and pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting good governance and development.
In addition, they expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A lawmaker representing Ilorin East Constituency, Rukayat Shitti, argued that opposition to Danladi-Salihu’s emergence as the preferred governorship candidate was largely driven by personal interests rather than the collective aspirations of party members.
