Armed assailants have abducted the traditional ruler of Igbesi community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Onigbesi of Igbesi Land.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when the attackers invaded the community in Oke-Onigbin, in Kwara South Senatorial District.
A local source said the monarch was taken to an unknown location during the attack. Initial reports also suggested that some residents may have been abducted, although the police later disputed this claim.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the traditional ruler was abducted but dismissed reports that other residents were kidnapped.
The police commissioner said security operatives had launched efforts to locate and rescue the monarch.
He also described reports of widespread attacks in the area within the previous 24 hours as inaccurate, saying, “The narrative of attacks within the past 24 hours is far from the truth; nothing of such.”
The whereabouts of the monarch remained unknown as of the time of filing the report, while security agencies continued efforts to secure his release.
