Former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended from tennis after testing positive for cocaine during an ATP 250 event in Mallorca in June.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said the 31-year-old tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. A World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratory confirmed the result on July 17, while the provisional suspension took effect on August 4.
Kyrgios admitted the violation in a public apology, describing it as a “huge mistake” and taking full responsibility for his actions.
The Australian also apologised to his fans, family, sponsors and young supporters, while revealing that persistent injuries and challenges surrounding his career had taken a significant toll.
Kyrgios has not appealed the provisional suspension and said he would step away from social media and public life for 28 days to focus on himself.
The former world No. 13, who reached the 2022 Wimbledon final, now faces further disciplinary proceedings as the ITIA continues its case.
