The Lagos State Government has accelerated work on a 26-megawatt (MW) embedded power project to deliver dedicated, uninterrupted electricity supply to the Iju-Akute Waterworks.
Key stakeholders recently inspected high-capacity power-generating equipment supplied by Jubaili Bros Nigeria for the Akute Independent Power Project (IPP), which is being developed by Agrigate Utilities Limited. The inspection verified the readiness of the machinery ahead of its deployment for Phase 1, which will deliver 9MW before subsequent phases expand capacity to 26MW.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, emphasized the project’s strategic importance to public health and infrastructure, urging strict adherence to specifications and timelines to guarantee long-term value for residents.
Chief Executive Officer of Agrigate Utilities Limited, Mr. Olufemi Bakare, expressed gratitude to the state government and partners, reaffirming his firm’s commitment to delivering Phase 1 on schedule. Representatives from Jubaili Bros Nigeria—Head of Commercial Mr. Mohammed Farhat and General Manager Mr. Ahmed Dahshi—also confirmed full technical readiness for deployment.
The inspection team included General Manager of the Lagos State Electrification Agency (LSEA), Engr. K.A.T. Balogun, alongside senior ministry directors. Logistics arrangements are now underway for the immediate installation and commissioning of the Phase 1 equipment.
