The Lagos State Government has commenced an extensive eight-week drainage construction project along Baale Animashaun Road in Ifako-Ijaiye as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen flood control infrastructure and improve stormwater management in the area.
The project, which includes the construction of a major culvert across Baale Animashaun Road, is designed to effectively channel stormwater runoff from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street, and adjoining communities, thereby reducing the risk of flooding and enhancing environmental sustainability.
The announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement issued on Friday, June 12, 2026.
According to the commissioner, construction work is scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026, and is expected to be completed within eight weeks.
To minimize disruption and ensure smooth vehicular movement during the construction period, the state government has introduced temporary traffic diversion measures for motorists using the corridor.
Motorists travelling from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway into Baale Animashaun Road have been advised to divert through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, connect through Alakuko Road, and rejoin Baale Animashaun Road.
Additional alternative routes include Jendor Junction through Alhaji Ganiyu Road, as well as the Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop route through Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street, and Fola Azeez Street.
The government emphasized that there will be no direct access into Baale Animashaun Road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway throughout the duration of the project.
Motorists and residents have been urged to comply with traffic signs and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to the area to facilitate seamless movement.
The Ministry of Transportation reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving road and drainage infrastructure, mitigating flooding challenges, and enhancing the quality of life for residents across Lagos State.
