The Lagos State Government has commenced the development of a comprehensive three-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening primary healthcare services and improving access to quality healthcare across the state.
The initiative is being led by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB), with support from the World Bank-backed IMPACT Project and collaboration with chairmen of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
The three-day strategic planning workshop is designed to produce a costed plan that will guide the delivery and sustainability of primary healthcare interventions across Lagos.
The initiative is expected to build on gains recorded through the IMPACT Project while strengthening the state’s efforts towards achieving universal health coverage and greater equity in healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the workshop, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said strengthening primary healthcare remains critical to meeting the needs of Lagos’ rapidly growing population.
Abayomi noted that the initiative aligns with the Lagos State Development Plan 2052, stressing that a stronger primary healthcare system is essential to achieving the state’s long-term development objectives.
The strategic plan is expected to provide a clear framework for improving service delivery, strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring that residents have better access to essential primary healthcare services.
