The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has expressed its readiness to deepen collaboration with Skål International as the organisation considers Nigeria as a potential host for its World Congress, with Lagos identified as the preferred destination.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, stated this on Monday, September 21, 2026, when she received a delegation led by the World President of Skål International, Mr. André Hayes, on a courtesy visit.
Oyekan-Ismaila reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to positioning the state as a leading tourism destination in Africa, highlighting its tourism, cultural, creative and entertainment sectors. She also welcomed the organisation’s interest in partnering with Lagos and exploring opportunities for international networking and tourism development.
Earlier, Hayes disclosed that Skål International was exploring Nigeria as a host country for its World Congress, with Lagos as the preferred destination. He said the proposed event would provide an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s tourism assets and potential to an international audience.
The delegation also visited tourism sites including the Badagry Museum and the Point of No Return, while experiencing local cuisine as part of efforts to gain first-hand knowledge of Lagos’ cultural heritage and hospitality offerings. Other stakeholders at the meeting emphasised the importance of collaboration, storytelling, media and private-sector investment in promoting Nigeria’s tourism industry.
