The Lagos State Government has directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation operations across the state following the recent build-up of refuse in several communities.
According to the government, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the Ministry of Environment are working around the clock to address the situation.
Authorities said additional trucks and personnel have been deployed to clear waste backlogs across affected neighbourhoods, adding that residents should already be noticing improvements as cleanup efforts intensify.
The government noted that Lagos generates more than 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, making waste management a significant undertaking that requires sustained effort and coordination.
Reaffirming its commitment to restoring cleanliness across the state, the government assured residents that the ongoing exercise would continue until all affected areas are completely cleared.
It also called for public cooperation, urging residents to properly bag their waste and refrain from dumping refuse in drainage channels and on roads.
The state government maintained that it has the situation under control and appealed to residents to work collectively toward keeping Lagos clean, safe, and environmentally sustainable.
