The Lagos State Government has taken its Mother, Infant and Child Development (MICHD) Programme to Health District IV as part of efforts to support vulnerable pregnant women and promote maternal and child health.
The second edition of the 2026 programme, organised by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement in collaboration with Lagos State Health District IV, was held at Akerele Primary Health Centre, Surulere.
The Director, Civic Engagement Department, Dr Babatunde Omotayo, said the initiative was designed to bring government closer to residents by providing expectant mothers with information on government policies, healthcare services and social intervention programmes.
Health officials also sensitised participants on proper nutrition, regular antenatal care and the prevention of diphtheria, while encouraging pregnant women to access available healthcare services and enrol in the Ilera Eko health scheme.
The programme featured an interactive session where participants sought clarification on antenatal care, government support programmes, diphtheria and appropriate medications and supplements during pregnancy.
A major highlight was the distribution of nutritional food packs and eggs to the participating pregnant women.
