The Lagos State Government has warned residents that failure to pay for waste management services provided by Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators will constitute a criminal offence.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X handle on Friday ahead of a radio programme titled, “Lagos and the Numerous Gains of the Monthly Clean-Up Since Resuscitation.”
Wahab said the state government was reviewing its waste management system to tackle challenges undermining its effectiveness.
He identified residents’ refusal to pay for waste collection services provided by PSP operators as one of the major issues requiring urgent attention.
The commissioner stressed that residents are expected to fulfil their obligations by paying for waste management services, noting that the government is taking steps to ensure a more effective and sustainable waste management system across Lagos.
