Prince (Dr.) Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Chairman of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, has described Lagos as his home and a place that has played a significant role in shaping his life, while commending successive leaders and contributors for the development of the state.
Olusi stated this while speaking on The Conversation, an in-house programme on Lagos Television (LTV).
Reflecting on his connection with Lagos, Olusi said, “Lagos is very important to me. Lagos is my home, my source, I have lived most of my life here.”
He noted that Lagos has maintained a progressive outlook over the years, providing opportunities for many Nigerians to serve and contribute to the growth and development of the state.
According to him, his memories of Lagos date back to the 1950s when the then Oba of Lagos, Oba Musendiku, established a political organisation known as the Area Council.
Olusi, however, expressed concern about the nature of contemporary democracy, describing it as one characterised by intense conflict.
“The democracy we have now is a democracy filled with conflict, a democracy of war,” he said.
The Lagos Governance Advisory Council chairman also urged Nigerians to recognise and appreciate the contributions of past and present leaders who have had the opportunity to govern Lagos.
“We have to congratulate the people who have had the opportunity to govern Lagos and acknowledge their contributions to the development of the state,” he said.
Speaking on the composition of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, Olusi described it as a gathering of experienced individuals with extensive knowledge of governance and public administration.
He explained that the council comprises people who have served at various levels of government, including former governors, former deputy governors and former permanent secretaries, as well as individuals with experience at the national level.
Olusi said the wealth of experience within the council positions it to provide valuable guidance and perspectives on issues affecting the governance and development of Lagos State.
