The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, has urged public servants to prioritise their health by undergoing regular medical check-ups to ensure the early detection and prevention of diseases.
Agoro made the appeal during the August edition of the monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, on Saturday.
He stressed that a healthy workforce is critical to effective and efficient service delivery, noting that maintaining good health is a collective responsibility that contributes to improved productivity in the public service.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, commended public servants for their consistent participation in the monthly fitness exercise and encouraged them to maintain good personal hygiene and adopt healthy lifestyle practices.
A Health Educator from the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Adefunke Amodu, also highlighted the importance of routine medical examinations, urging participants to know their health status through periodic screenings, particularly for hepatitis, a viral disease that primarily affects the liver.
She advised public servants to avoid unprotected sexual intercourse, exposure to unsterilised medical equipment and sharp objects, as well as excessive alcohol consumption. She also encouraged healthy eating by consuming hygienically prepared meals, fruits, vegetables and adequate amounts of water.
The monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing initiative to promote healthy living, improve the well-being of public servants and enhance productivity across the state workforce.
