The Lagos State Government has announced a two-week traffic advisory as the Federal Ministry of Works begins the replacement of the expansion joint at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the rehabilitation work commenced on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and is expected to cause partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis.
To facilitate the repairs, the existing four-lane carriageway will be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch, creating a safe work zone for construction activities.
Motorists are advised to expect moderate traffic congestion, particularly around the Fatgbems Turn, where some drivers may make U-turns or seek alternative routes. However, traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is expected to flow with minimal disruption.
The Ministry urged road users to plan their trips ahead, consider alternative routes where possible, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.
The government noted that the rehabilitation project is aimed at improving the safety and durability of the bridge for all road users.
