The Lagos State Government has commenced the 2026 Safeguarding and Child Protection Week with a call for stronger measures to protect children from abuse and provide safe channels for reporting concerns.
The five-day programme, themed “My Silence Ends Here,” began on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the LASUBEB Hall, Maryland, and will run until Friday, September 25. Activities are being held across the state’s six education districts.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, stressed the need to create an environment where children can speak about abuse without fear, while adults and institutions respond appropriately to concerns.
The programme is expected to engage more than 1,500 children on safeguarding, child protection and the importance of speaking up against abuse. The Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Madam Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, also called for collective responsibility among government, schools, parents, communities and other stakeholders in protecting children.
The week-long programme features interactive sessions, artistic presentations, music and dance, an awards presentation and a pledge ceremony, with further activities scheduled across Lagos’ education districts.
