The Lagos State Government has launched the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) for the 2026 Annual School Census, marking a major step toward improving education data management across public and private primary and secondary schools.
Speaking at the launch held at Ikeja Junior Grammar School, Bolade-Oshodi, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the initiative as a significant milestone in strengthening education planning, policy formulation and resource allocation.
He said the transition from manual data collection to a fully digital platform would enhance the accuracy, quality and timeliness of education statistics, supporting effective decision-making and equitable distribution of resources across the sector.
The commissioner urged school administrators, head teachers, principals and proprietors of private schools to cooperate fully with census officials by providing accurate and timely information throughout the exercise.
Also speaking, the Acting Statistician-General and Chairman of the Lagos State Coordinating Unit, Mr. Bashir Temitayo Oseni-Ope, said the digital platform would improve data integrity by capturing critical information, including student enrolment, teaching and non-teaching staff, and school infrastructure, while eliminating errors associated with manual data collection.
The Lagos State Government called on all schools to comply with the exercise, stressing that reliable, real-time data is essential for improving service delivery, enhancing transparency and achieving better learning outcomes.
