A Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, has sentenced a 67-year-old legal practitioner, Taiwo Abidemi, to seven months’ imprisonment for violating the state’s environmental laws.
Abidemi was convicted after pleading guilty to a three-count charge bordering on breach of peace, indiscriminate dumping of refuse at an unauthorised location, and failure to engage an approved Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operator. The offences were committed along Guinness Road in Agege on July 9, 2026.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Adefioye F.J. ruled that no individual is above the law, stressing that environmental protection is a shared responsibility. The court sentenced the defendant to one month imprisonment on the first count and three months each on the second and third counts.
Reacting to the judgment, the Coordinator of the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Olufemi Adekunle, said the ruling underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws without fear or favour. He urged residents to comply with environmental regulations, noting that the Mobile Court will continue its daily sittings across the state to ensure swift prosecution of offenders.
