The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), has commenced a two-day Junior Officers’ Workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity, professionalism, and effectiveness of junior officers for improved service delivery.
The 2026 workshop, themed “From Potential to Performance: Empowering Junior Officers for Excellence in Service Delivery,” is holding from Tuesday, August 11, to Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Imperial Hall, Alausa, Lagos.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, emphasised that effective justice delivery is a collective responsibility that extends beyond legal officers.
He noted that officers across various cadres and departments play important roles in the overall efficiency of the Ministry, stressing that every individual’s contribution has an impact on organisational performance.
Pedro said the workshop was designed to equip participants with relevant knowledge, practical skills, and professional values to enhance their performance and service delivery.
He urged junior officers to uphold integrity, accountability, professionalism, and teamwork, noting that even routine responsibilities can have significant implications for the efficiency and reputation of the Ministry.
Earlier, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Hameed Oyenuga, described junior officers as a critical component of the future workforce of the Lagos State Public Service. He encouraged participants to transform their potential into measurable performance by taking ownership of their professional development.
Oyenuga advised the officers to continually seek knowledge, ask questions, learn from experienced colleagues, and maximise available training opportunities. He also stressed the importance of diligence, attention to detail, confidentiality, and integrity in effective public service.
The Permanent Secretary, Citizens’ Mediation Bureau, Mrs. Aderinsola Olanrewaju, highlighted the importance of continuous learning and professional development in building a competent and responsive workforce.
She expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop would enhance the officers’ performance and strengthen their contributions to the Ministry’s service delivery.
One of the facilitators, Mr. Femi Sholaja, addressed participants on key areas including competence and productivity, office etiquette, effective communication, and emotional intelligence. His session focused on developing practical workplace skills and professional attitudes needed for improved performance and effective interpersonal relationships.
The workshop will also feature sessions on health, career progression in the State Public Service, professional ethics and integrity, as well as specialised breakout sessions for drivers, cleaners, clerks, and administrative officers.
The initiative underscores the Ministry of Justice’s commitment to continuous human capital development and the building of a more efficient, professional, innovative, and responsive public service.
