The Lagos State Government has intensified monitoring of public schools across the state to ensure a smooth commencement of the 2026/27 academic session, with the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, and the Permanent Secretary, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, leading monitoring exercises at selected schools.
The Commissioner visited Keke Senior High School, Agege, where he inspected the school environment, engaged teachers and administrators, and assessed compliance with resumption directives.
He urged students to remain focused, study ahead of their classes, engage their teachers and participate positively in school activities. He also charged teachers and school personnel to uphold discipline, punctuality and professionalism while providing quality education in a safe and conducive environment.
As part of the exercise, the Commissioner conducted a roll call of teachers to assess attendance and compliance with resumption requirements.
The Permanent Secretary, accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant on Basic and Secondary Education, Eniola Opeyemi, visited Technical and Vocational School, Agidingbi, and Babs Fafunwa Grammar School, Ojodu.
She assessed staff and student attendance, school preparedness and the commencement of academic activities, while encouraging teachers and administrators to remain committed to their responsibilities.
Dokunmu-Adegbite also advised students to shun negative peer influence, embrace continuous learning and develop useful skills. She urged parents to take an active role in their children’s education and upbringing.
To ensure comprehensive monitoring across the state, Directors from Grade Level 15 and above in the Ministry were deployed to various schools to assess readiness, attendance and the overall commencement of teaching and learning.
The Ministry reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening educational standards, supporting teachers and ensuring that students have a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
