Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, have inspected the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation works at Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The inspection, conducted on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, was led by the Director of the Monument and Museum Management Department, Mr. Ladejobi Ibrahim, alongside the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Architect Babatunde Yakub. The team was joined by the Chief Executive Officer of Freedom Park/Total Consult Limited, Architect Theo Lawson.
During the exercise, the officials inspected various sections of the facility to assess its current condition, monitor the progress of ongoing works and review areas covered under the approved renovation and rehabilitation agreement. The visit also provided an opportunity for the relevant ministries and Total Consult Limited to identify areas requiring coordination for the effective execution of the project.
Freedom Park, located on Broad Street, Lagos Island, is recognised as an important historical, cultural and tourism asset of Lagos State. The ongoing rehabilitation is aimed at improving the facility’s functionality while strengthening its role in heritage preservation, recreation, tourism and public engagement.
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture stressed the importance of preserving and upgrading the State’s heritage assets, noting that the intervention at Freedom Park would contribute to the continued development of the facility as a destination for cultural and tourism activities.
The Ministries of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Works and Infrastructure reaffirmed their commitment to working with Total Consult Limited to ensure proper coordination and effective delivery of the approved renovation and rehabilitation works in line with relevant standards and specifications. Other officials from both ministries also participated in the inspection.
