The Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, has led a delegation from the Public Service Office and the Office of the Head of Service to a five-day international training and capacity exchange programme in Kigali, Rwanda.
The programme, held from Monday, August 10 to Friday, August 14, 2026, was themed “From Strategy to Results: Strengthening Governance, Digital Government and Public Sector Performance.”
The training was designed to equip senior government officials with contemporary knowledge, practical skills and innovative approaches to improving productivity, institutional effectiveness and public service delivery.
Participants gained insights into critical areas of public sector transformation, including digitalisation, capacity development, leadership, institutional reforms and effective policy implementation, with a focus on strengthening ongoing reforms within the Lagos State Public Service.
A major component of the programme was the exchange of knowledge and experiences on Rwanda’s development journey, particularly its economic development strategies and government policies supporting the growth, resilience and sustainability of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
The delegation also undertook study visits to notable landmarks in Kigali, including the Rwanda Genocide Museum, which offered participants deeper insights into the country’s history, recovery and remarkable socio-economic transformation.
The programme further provided an opportunity for participants to observe Rwanda’s urban planning and development strategies and consider lessons that could be adapted to strengthen governance and service delivery in Lagos State.
The international capacity-building initiative underscores the Lagos State Public Service’s commitment to continuous learning, institutional strengthening and the adoption of innovative approaches capable of translating strategic policies into measurable results.
The knowledge and experiences gained are expected to contribute to improved productivity, stronger institutions and more effective service delivery to citizens across Lagos State.
