The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive education and ensuring that every child, regardless of ability or circumstance, has access to quality learning opportunities that enable them to realise their full potential.
This commitment was highlighted during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education by Michael Oluwadamilare, a student of Sango Senior Secondary (Inclusive) School, Sango-Ota, who presented a meticulously crafted portrait of the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite.
The presentation, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, showcased the student’s exceptional artistic talent, with the portrait earning widespread admiration for its striking resemblance to the Permanent Secretary.
The gesture served as a powerful reminder that disability is not a limitation to excellence but an opportunity for talent and potential to flourish when adequately nurtured. It also reinforced the message that every learner possesses unique abilities capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
Receiving the portrait, Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite commended Michael for his creativity, dedication and remarkable artistic skill. She also praised the school’s management and teachers for their commitment to identifying and developing the talents of learners within an inclusive educational environment.
The Permanent Secretary reiterated that the Lagos State Government remains committed to creating an education system where every child is empowered to discover, develop and maximise their unique abilities.
She emphasised that inclusive education remains a key priority of the State Government, reflecting its vision of ensuring that no child is left behind, regardless of physical, sensory or learning challenges.
According to her, providing equitable access to quality education and appropriate support services enables all learners to thrive academically, socially and creatively.
The student’s inspiring presentation further underscored the transformative impact of inclusive education and demonstrated that, with the right encouragement and opportunities, learners with disabilities can achieve outstanding success.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its resolve to continue investing in inclusive education initiatives that promote equity, unlock individual potential and empower every learner to become a confident, productive and valued member of society.
